Mark Schirmacher and Katy Tessman have a lot in common -- both are talented singer-songwriters, accomplished authors, cancer survivors, and they attended high school together in the 80s. Tonight, these storytellers will guide you on a diverse musical and emotional terrain. No doubt this event will feel a bit like a homecoming and a celebration of life. Mark will perform an opening set, then Katy and her band will then play a long set with her new band that includes her son, Sweet Lou on lead guitar, Thomas Leier on bass, and Aaron Gilles on percussion.

Their new series "New Song Collective" hosts songwriters in an intimate setting holding a space for insight and discussion on their songwriting process and perform their original songs.

We will be at Arbeiter Brewing Co. today, Saturday, March 26 with bands Monument of Humanity from 3-4:30 and Katy Tessman +The Boys from 4:30-6. Suggested donation of $5 or you can donate directly to the MFT Strike Fund. All proceeds raised at this event will go to support striking educators in need.

Katy had the honor of playing her new songs with four veteran musicians: Dan Gaarder (acoustic guitar), Bill Quinn (pedal steel), Brent Fuqua (mandolin), and Eric Paulson (upright bass).

After a 20-year pause from the stage, Katy made her re-debut with a ticketed event at Ginkgo Coffeehouse in St Paul on January 8. During the height of the omicron variant of the Covid-19 pandemic, Katy filled the house with friends and fans alike. David Harland performed an opening set of beautiful fingerstyle guitar and Katy & David performed a duet. Katy was joined on stage by her 19-year-old son on electric guitar, Sweet Lou, and her Joe's Elevator band-mate, Tom Leier on bass and backing vocals.
