Hero Now Crowned is a tribute to everyone who has overcome hardships – whether it be a health crisis, a battle with addiction, or coping with anxiety, depression, or grief. Life challenges all of us with many painful experiences. You don’t have to slay a dragon to be a hero. Simply fighting, surviving, and continuing the battle certifies you as one. The hero’s journey is personal for me. In October 2009, after my first mammogram, I was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 39. It felt like I’d fallen down a deep dark hole. For the past decade, I’ve learned that I can find the bottom, inch up, and make my way back to the top. I now feel like I’ve summited a mountain!” ~ KT

I have thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with illustrator Bebe Keith on this book. Just as I collaborate with musicians on my songs in the recording studio and on stage, Bebe’s enchanting watercolors have given my lyrics a new voice. I am so grateful to have her as a member of my “band." ~ KT

About the Songwriter

Books and Music have always taken center stage in Katy Tessman’s life. Using the wisdom she’s gained through breast cancer survival, heartbreak, and motherhood, Katy is an optimistic writer who aims to spread hope and joy. She authored the award-winning children’s book about breast cancer, Our Mama is a Beautiful Garden and Katy was named CHANGEMAKER by the Minnesota Women’s Press. Combining her love of writing and performing, Katy earned a BA in Speech Communication from Minnesota State University-Moorhead. As a singer-songwriter, Katy performs on stages throughout Minnesota and around the region. Her two sons are also talented musicians and there’s always some kind of music pouring out of the Tessman home in Minnetonka, Minnesota.

About the Illustrator

Bebe Keith is a self-taught artist who likes to laugh. She loves creating and is always looking for ways to stretch and grow as an artist and as a human. Currently she is loving watercolor and ink, pastels and mixed media collage. She has written and illustrated several books and offers instructional online courses. Bebe has done a lot of public artwork as well, and her designs can be found in hospitals, airports, event centers, libraries, and colleges across the country. Bebe and her husband, Pete, make their home in St. Paul, Minnesota.
