Throughout my breast cancer journey, I participated in a variety of therapies including Music Therapy with guided imagery and Healing Touch. Writing was also therapeutic for me. Telling my story through haikus was very healing.
Haikus
my first mammogram
the right thing at the right time then a biopsy phone call with results positive is negative like falling down deep 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 like a rocket ship blast off forced to wean my babe fortieth birthday I avoid my reflection goodbye triple D I miss my nipples nursed my babies for six years changed me forever chemotherapy a battle ground well traveled call me warrior day number 19 had total body hair loss still have my feet warts I find a ladder family, friends, and neighbors each a step up higher |
support of loved ones
made me strong, robust, and tough spirit positive hair on my head grows like flowers bloom in the spring shave my legs again I, Wonder Woman my comeback is slow but sure I wear pink with pride plenty of prayers said heal, cure, rediscover self pray to my body the reconstruction project: we can re-build her continues again another needle punctures my skin with pigment feminine markings these two scars of mine markings of never again check marks, done and done I am a mother daughter, sister, auntie, friend and a survivor |
